     Allen Froese:                          Vol. II No. 6
  A Hard Driving Faith
       December 4, 2007

A passionate faith and continuous pursuit of God. Worship leader Allen Froese gives it all for us to hear on his website: From his driving praise songs to tender worship, full songs and Lyrics & Chords sheets for each. This first solo worship project, Faith Inside, has faith itself as the common thread through each of its twelve songs.

Quoting from his online biography: Allen's "...approach to worship is influenced by...principles he has learned from veteran worship leaders:
Integrity—a commitment to living a holy life that is pleasing to God, and being authentic and open with God in worship;
Accessibility—to lead worship in a way that encourages participation;
Intimacy
—to help people connect with God in a deep and personal way;
Prophetic
—to lead in the anointing of the Holy Spirit, being sensitive to where God directs the worship service."

     True Worshipers of God Series

This is another installment of Pastor Dan Gardner's series, True Worshipers of God. For this complete series on audio, go to WorshipToonz on this page. You can also find much of Dan's music, recorded and published, on this page. Each song has its own audio and leadsheet demos.

Session 6: Music in Worship (cont.)         Dan Gardner

IV. PURPOSES OF MUSIC IN WORSHIP

There are four main purposes for music in the church: to worship, teach, encourage, and evangelize. This outline summarizes in general the purposes for music in worship noting some of the scriptural references reviewed earlier in this session.

  1. Anointed music helps lead us into the presence of the Lord. Psalm 100.
    1. Anointed music helps us to be filled with the spirit and focus on spiritual things. Ephesians 5:18,19… “speaking to yourselves...”
    2. Anointed music is a means of teaching and encouraging others; it helps to lead others into the presence of the Lord. Colossians 3:16… “teaching and admonishing one another…”
  2. Anointed music is an “expression” of our praise and worship. Psalm 69:30,31
  3. Anointed music unites us as worshipers. II Chronicles 5:13
  4. God inhabits the praises (anointed music - tehillah) of His people. Psalm 22:3. He inhabits our vocal and instrumental praise with his manifest presence/glory.
    II Chronicles 5:13-14 (Solomon’s temple).
    1. Anointed music surrounds many miraculous works.
      1. Spiritual release, restoration, healing - I Samuel 16:23 (David/Saul)
      2. Spiritual victory – II Chronicles. 20:22 (Jehoshaphat)
      3. Breaking of bondages - Acts 16:25,26 (Paul/Silas)
      4. Celebration of triumph - Exodus 15 (Moses)
      5. Unbelievers coming to God - Psalm 40:3
      6. Release of prophetic – II Kings 3:15 (Elisha)
    2. Anointed music leads us into the Lord’s presence, and His presence brings life. As we minister to the Lord in music, our spirit is lifted and refreshed by His presence.

    QUOTES:
    John Calvin: “Music is one of the chief means of restoring the human soul.”
    C.S. Lewis - “Praise almost seems to be inner healing made audible.
    Judson Cornwall - “Music is, indeed, intrinsic to the believer. We have a song within us - a song born of the Holy Spirit.”

Downloads of the Month

The Worship Package for download this month is one of Dan Gardner's earlier worship songs, We Will Triumph in the Lord, and includes: a Windows Media audio file, Lead Sheets in A and Bb for 3-part Worship Team, Lyrics & Chords for Guitar in G and A, and a Lyrics Sheet for your convenience—five pages of music and lyrics! This is a very powerful chorus, perfectly suited to a theme of living victoriously in Christ.

An additional zip file for download this month caters to guitarists among our readers. It includes eleven mp3 demos of the seven guitar arrangements of Christmas carols we have posted on our Christmas page. If you can read notation, tablature, or both, use these midi demos to guide you if you've decided to work through these settings of some well-known carols.

Christmas Arrangements

Don't delay! Visit the WorshipToonz Christmas page! Download guitar arrangements of many Christmas favorites for free. For those who have brass or orchestral groups, five arrangements are available at very low cost.
This month's irony: I'm so involved in Christmas music prep this month that new arrangements will not make it up. Hope you enjoy what's there already...
